Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our careers counselling services and approach to career fulfilment.

1. What is career counselling?

Career counselling is a structured, supportive process that helps you understand your strengths, interests, skills, and values so you can make informed decisions about study, training, and work pathways. It includes career conversations, assessments, SMART goal-setting, practical planning, and executive coaching.

2. Who do you work with?

I work with:

  • Secondary school students (Years 7-12)
  • Young adults and career starters
  • NDIS participants
  • Adults returning to study or work
  • Career-changers exploring new pathways
  • Parents and schools seeking structured guidance for students
  • Executives seeking strategic coaching into leadership roles
3. How is career counselling different from general counselling?

Career counselling focuses specifically on education, training, and employment pathways. Our work is strengths-based, practical, and future-focused, designed to help you gain clarity, confidence and direction.

4. What types of assessments do you use?

We use a range of recognised evidence-based career and vocational assessments, which may include:

  • Interest inventories
  • Strengths and personality-based tools
  • Skills and capability assessments
  • Work readiness assessments
  • Vocational profiling for NDIS participants

These are selected based on your needs, goals and developmental stage.

5. How can career counselling help students?

For students, career counselling can support:

  • Subject selection
  • VCE/VPC/VCE-VM pathways
  • Apprenticeship and traineeship preparation
  • Work experience planning
  • University/TAFE research
  • Goal-setting and transitions beyond school
6. How do you support NDIS participants?

We provide career development and vocational support that aligns with NDIS Capacity Building - Finding and Keeping a Job, including:

  • Employment-Related Assessment and Counselling
  • Work readiness and skill development
  • Exploration of strengths and vocational goals
  • Career planning and pathways support
8. Can adults and career-changers access your services?

Absolutely. Whether you're returning to work, seeking a new direction, or reassessing your career goals, I provide practical and personalised support for every stage of your journey.

9. How long does a career counselling session go for?

Sessions generally run for 50 minutes, depending on the service. Assessment-based packages may include longer sessions or a series of appointments to ensure thorough, personalised guidance. During your initial 'Getting to Know You' session, we'll explore your goals, strengths, and needs, allowing us to recommend the number and type of sessions that will best support your individual pathway. You may only need one session to get you on the right path, however, if coaching is required, this may take up to six sessions.

10. Do you offer ongoing support?

Yes. Many clients benefit from ongoing guidance throughout transitions such as Year 12, identifying career options that meet your unique strengths, or planning study pathways. I tailor ongoing support to your needs.

11. Can you help with resumes, interviews, and job applications?

Yes. I provide job-search support including:

  • Individualised Resume development
  • Tailored cover letters
  • Interview preparation
  • Job-search strategies
  • Employer communication skills
12. Do you offer online appointments?

Yes. Sessions can be held in person or online, providing flexibility for busy families, regional clients, or those who prefer remote support.

13. What should I expect in my first session?

Your first session typically includes:

  • A discussion about your goals and current situation
  • Exploring your interests, strengths, and challenges
  • Identifying suitable assessments if needed
  • Creating a personalised plan for next steps
14. How do I book an appointment?
